What is Bluetooth®*?
Bluetooth is a wireless
technology standard that allows different types of electronic devices to
interact via short-range radio waves. Because of the versatility of
Bluetooth wireless technology, enabled devices do not share all of the
same profiles. The Audi phone preparation with Bluetooth system is
compatible with Bluetooth-enabled phones that have a hands-free profile.
The standard allows a wide range of devices to communicate with each
other, with minimal user effort.
Currently the Audi Phone Preparation with Bluetooth comes standard in
the A6 and A8, and is optional in the A3, A4, and S4 in all body styles.
* Your Audi vehicle may be equipped with a phone preparation utilizing
Bluetooth® interface to enable hands-free functionality (compatible
mobile phones sold separately). You will need a Bluetooth enabled mobile
phone in order to utilize this function. Not all Bluetooth enabled
mobile phone models are compatible with Audi's phone preparation. Visit
our website or contact your local Audi dealer, for the latest listing of
compatible phones. Audi recommends the use of the Audi phone cradle
(sold separately) with your mobile phone while operating this vehicle.
A4 Models produced prior to July 2005 are not Bluetooth compatible.

How does Bluetooth® work in my Audi?
When an Audi vehicle is
equipped with a phone preparation utilizing a Bluetooth® interface,
hands-free functionality is enabled (cell phones and cell phone
subscription sold separately). If you have an Audi phone cradle, all you
have to do is insert the phone into the cradle and it will work with the
car. If you are instead using Bluetooth to connect with the Audi phone
preparation, please follow the instructions in your phone manual in
order to pair your phone with the Audi system.
The Audi cell phone preparation has the following features:
Using a Bluetooth connection or an Audi phone cradle, the Audi phone
preparation will allow you to place and receive phone calls through the
Audi MMI or through the voice control system.
In addition, cell phone book access and caller ID is available through
the MMI and instrument cluster (not all phones support these features).
During a call, voice mail can be accessed using the MMI
Up to four different Bluetooth cell phones can be paired to the Audi
cell phone preparation; however, only one phone can be connected
actively at one time.
You will need a compatible mobile phone in order to utilize this
function (see the downloadable PDF below). Not all Bluetooth enabled
mobile phone models are compatible with the Audi phone preparation.
Contact your local Audi dealer for the latest listing of compatible
phones. Audi recommends the use of the Audi phone cradle (sold
separately) with your mobile phone while operating this vehicle, as it
will better ensure that your cell phone will work in your Audi vehicle
with full functionality.
Depending on the cell phone being used, different steps are necessary to
pair the phone to the car using Bluetooth. Please read the Owner's
Manual of your cell phone and the Audi A6 Infotainment/MMI Operating
Instructions for further details.

How do I
send and receive calls using the Audi Phone Preparation with Bluetooth®?
If using a cradle, the
phone needs to be docked in the cradle. If you are using Bluetooth, the

vehicle.
You can now send calls without touching the phone using 1 of 2 methods:

Press the "Talk" button on the steering wheel.
Say "Dial Number." The vehicle will ask you what number you would like
to call.
Say the number you would like to call in one continuous string or in
groups of numbers. The vehicle will confirm the number.
Say "Dial" and the number will be dialed.
Via Audi MMI
Using the MMI control knob enter the numbers you would like to call
Turn the MMI control knob to "OK" and press down.
To receive calls, do one of the following:
Press the "Talk" button on the steering wheel.
Press the soft-key "Answer call" on the MMI.
