Su Casa Family Crisis and Support
Center is a non-profit, community-based agency serving victims of domestic violence and
child aZbuse. Su Casa provides handicapped-accessible shelter and
supportive services to women and children of all social, economic, religious,or ethnic
groups. Su Casa is dedicated to the philosophy that every individual has
the right to live in an environment free from violence or the threat of violence.
- To reduce the effects of domestic violence through information and
child abuse on its victims through information and support services.
- To break the intergenerational cycle of violence through community
outreach and prevention education.
YOU MAY BE IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP IF:
- You are afraid of your partner's temper.
- Your partner calls you names or belittles you.
- Your partner is jealous.
- Your partner restricts your activities; you have to ask for your
partner's permission.
- Your partner slaps, shoves, hits, kicks or throws things at you.
UNDERSTANDING THE VICTIM
The abuser controls the victim with threats, intimidation,
deprivation and isolation. The violence may start with a slap or push. Without
intervention, the battering only gets worse, many times resulting in severe injuries, and
in some cases, death for the victim.
Living in a violent environment creates a constant state of fear.
The victim becomes "helpless" and feels there is no way out. The victim then
" learns" how to survive the abuse by being submissive, guilty and depressed.
Children reared in violent homes are always victims. They make up
50% of all actual physical abuse cases and suffer tremendous emotional abuse and neglect.
